Meet Our President/Founder
I am a native of Barlow Bend, Alabama, a small rural community that is found in Clarke County, and I am an alumnus of Jackson High in Jackson, Alabama. I started in the medical field as a Medical Assistant in 1999; I worked as a Medical Assistant for three years before I enrolled at Bishop State Community College in Mobile, Alabama, to obtain my Associate Degree in Nursing. In 2007, I received my Associate Degree in Nursing and embarked on my career as a professional nurse. I received my Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (2012) and my Master's in Nursing Education and Administration (2014) from the University of Mobile in Mobile, Alabama. I obtained my post-Master's in Family Nurse Practitioner (2019) and Doctor of Nursing Practice (2022) from Troy University. I am currently working as a Family Nurse Practitioner within underserved communities and the indigent patient population.
I am a member of numerous nursing organizations: In 2022, I received the Citation of Excellence Award from the Alabama State Nurse Association. In 2019, I was recognized as one of the Worldwide Leaders in Healthcare in the state of Alabama by the International Nurse Association. I was inducted into the Sigma Theta Tau Nursing Honor Society in 2014 as Nurse Leader. I am also a member of the Doctor of Nursing Practice Organization, Bay Area Nurse Practitioner Association (BANPA), American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP), Alabama State Nurses Association (ASNA), Gulf Coast Organization for Nursing Leadership (GCONL), National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI).
I have worked in a variety of areas in the nursing profession. Starting my nursing career (2007) as an ER Trauma Nurse at the University of South Alabama ER Trauma Center in Mobile, Alabama. Spreading my wings throughout this profession has lead me from ER, ICU, medical-surgical, telemetry, travel nursing, nurse management, nurse educator, community health & wellness coordinator, nurse mentor, and entrepreneurship.
First and far most, I prayed to God to help me find my purpose here on earth. Following that prayer and discernment, this is where God leads me. I love mentoring, empowering, inspiring, and giving back to the community and the nursing profession. I launched this 501-c3 non-profit organization with my friend, Vice President, and Co-Founder, Dr. Tasha Jones-Nelson, DNP, CRNP, A-GNP-C, PMHNP-BC. She and I brainstormed and collaborated with many individuals in the healthcare profession to build this dynamic non-profit mentoring service.
My personal goal for Nurse Mentor Consultant Services, Inc is to provide exceptional mentoring services and resources that will have a positive impact on minority nurses and nursing students as they excel in their nursing careers. This mentoring service is available to any individual that desires a career in the healthcare industry. In my spare time, I volunteer within the community to educate and advocate for the underserved patient population. I also enjoy spending time and traveling with my husband, son, family, and friends.
